What's with the hostility towards bisexuality?

As cliche as it sounds, it's true that the less people understand something the more they're prone to knocking it or dismissing it. When I tell people I'm bisexual they come at me with the assumption that I'm just confused or following a trend. That's completely WRONG. I'm sure that's a possibility for some people but not everyone. I've always been equally attracted to both men and women. It's something I feel I shouldn't have to constantly defend. I've noticed that the most opposition comes from the gay community. Can someone explain from a personal standpoint why this is the case? I'm not trying to start anything, just would like to get some feedback.

What? You mena bisexuality is like Crocs? or Parachute pants? or Jelly shoes? It's a trend right?

Whoever thought that anyone could be attracted to someone because they find them attractive. Surely you jest?!

Obviously, I have A LOT of sarcasm but I've noticed it from when I was a little girl in the 80's. I asked my mum about what she thought of bisexuals. (I was testign the waters before I came out.) She said it was someone who was confused. I didn't come out to her until 20+ years later when I felt she was more informed. Keep in mind I respect my mum and find her to be a brilliant, intelligent woman and I felt bad that I couldn't share my true self with her until I was older.
