I wander through Google searches, trying to crack my writer’s block. I want to find something exciting and inspiring about bisexuality, but article after article disappoints or annoys me, at least at first glance. One of my first searches was “bisexuality articles.” My lips press together and my eyebrows furrow involuntarily. The very first hit is a New York Times article from 2005 called “Straight, Gay or Lying? Bisexuality revisited.” Already I was feeling a bubble of anger in my stomach. Another article was from msnbc.com entitled “More women experimenting with bisexuality.” One from Psychology Today was titled “Why are so many girls lesbian or bisexual?” From the titles, my first reaction is to get angry and defensive. I feel personally attacked as I visualize invisible fingers pointing, accusative voices crying, “Liar…Fake…Confused!”

The bisexual male" />

Robert Winn met his wife, Christine, in college. He was a fraternity boy. She was a sorority girl. Early in their relationship, he made a confession, a thorny secret he camouflaged from his closest family and friends.

The truth sputtered out awkwardly.

Sensing his nervousness, she speculated he would announce he was sick — or perhaps dying?

He told her he was bisexual.

On the surface, Robert Winn, now 40, and Christine Winn, 41, appear to be like any other blissfully married heterosexual couple. They boast nearly 18 years of monogamous marriage. He’s a well-respected physician, who works with the LGBT community in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She’s a successful hospital administrator.

The couple says they’ve grown closer over time, but like any marriage, two people can have differences — including sexual orientation. Christine Winn is straight, and she has been supportive of her husband, who is openly bisexual.

"I don’t think about it [his bisexuality] as a part I have to accept," she said. "It’s just a part of him like any other husband who loses their socks on the floor or doesn’t take the trash out."

Her husband feels a sexual and emotional attraction toward men and women. While he fantasizes about Angelina Jolie just as his straight male friends might do, he is also attracted to Brad Pitt.

This may sound like the best of both worlds, but being openly bisexual can be complicated. He frequently battles the stereotypes of bisexuality: That bisexual men are promiscuous. That his relationships with men were just an adolescent phase. That his bisexuality is imaginary. That he’s really a gay man trying to camouflage his orientation.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender – often called by LGBT – are now having their own part in society. Historically, gay men have been through a lot of things from punishment to death by Hitler in World War II, to present life when freedom is no longer hard to reach. Nowadays, gay men can live freely and make a good living in society. We also have seen many gay men have given good contribution for human life in general. In some countries, like Netherlands, gay marriages are allowed while some others give a real constriction for gay lifestyle and everything related to it. But whatever people think of them, however the way people see them; gay men will always live among us with all appreciations yet all insults, since not every person can accept the way they are.

Symbolism has been one important thing for gay men. It represents pride, existence, and also shows movements that have been through for many years ago. It is also helpful for gay men who are willing to be recognized, by using accessories with gay symbols. The symbols are used often as marks, so that gay people can recognize each other. Some bars, restaurants, and public services sometimes use the symbols to show that they are gay friendly, without have to make straight people aware of it.

Gay symbols can be divided into four main groups. They are flags, triangles, and gender symbols with history lies under each of them.

As an often excluded member of the LGBT community, I’ve noticed some things in the past 10 years or so…

* I’ve heard gay men be snarky about lesbians.
* I’ve seen lines drawn and distinctions made between "types" of lesbians or gay men.
* I’ve noticed confusion and prejudice about transgenderism.
* As a bisexual, I’ve personally been the target of discrimination and hurtful remarks from "strictly gay" folks.

Why do we do this to each other? Why are there these prejudices? I’m asking honestly, because I feel that a community that so greatly and so often suffers the slings and arrows of straight society ought to be as nurturing and protective of all its members as possible, rather than causing further hurt and harm.

So, to the gays and lesbians out there, what are your personal experiences that pertain to my concerns? Why do so many of you dislike bisexuality, or even any orientation other than your own? Have you had unpleasant experiences that are related, or is it simply a prejudice that has been passed along?

I will admit that for personal reasons, I’m particularly curious about the disdain and disregard with which many bisexuals are treated by the lesbian and gay community. We do feel left out, folks… what have we done to offend, and why can’t we all just get along, eh?
